The Broken Mirror

A gift it was, that I got without asking

A mirror, so simple, yet so beautifully striking

With a look of awe, I stared at it

I didn't think I was worth it, no not a bit.

Reflected in it, was my beauty that I'd never found

My infinte abilities that soared above the ground

It taught me how to learn from my flaws

To become a genius like everyone else was

And then the mirror slipped, all of a sudden

It simply broke and I couldn't stop it happen

In horror, I saw myself still in it

Saw my carelessness reflected in every broken bit.

All around me grim sadness creeped in

All that remained in the mirror was the ghost of my last grin

I picked up the pieces and tried to put it back again

But it cut my finger as if to show me its pain.

I fixed it struggling as hard as I could possibly

But now it only showed me the acts I had done foolishly

I saw all my efforts to repair it, go in vain

As I realised, a broken mirror can never be the same again!!!

We left the house when we were four,

And you brought us into the sea from the shore.

Then our destined voyage began right away,

To reach the unseen shore that was far away.

The waves were lashing high and low,

And we started our voyage with a vow.

When in our scuffle, catastrophe surrounds,

And happiness seems almost out of bounds,

You helped and led us in the right path,

And aided us to conquer, even the sea’s wrath.

You helped us to be courageous and put up a brave fight,

Which brought victory in a way that was ever right

You helped us remove the germ of failure,

And polished us like gold…so bright and pure!

You molded us in the most ingenious way,

And brought in our lives, hopeful rays.

We give ‘YOU’ the name ‘TEACHER’-the seven lettered word,

That is beyond the Seven Wonders of the World.

We are full of gratitude to you all along our way,

And wish you the warmest wishes of “Teacher’s Day”!

P.S. This poem happens to be a combined work by my friend Chand and me.

India of my Dreams…

A nation rich in religion and culture

A treat to the eyes, the snowy peaks and green pasture

People of religions of different kinds

Living with unselfish love and broad minds

Where corruption, crime and poverty have no birth

Oh! It feels as if heavens have landed on earth

A land where success is accepted with humility

And everyone is working to increase the nation’s purity

Everywhere the cords of hatred severed

Such a nation whose etiquettes are always revered

A country of achievements, fulfilled visions and dreams

Where knowledge flows smoothly like streams

A nation that stands not on ‘I’ but on ‘We’

A nation like that, India of my dreams would be!!!

When I say ‘I love you'

Love, the most beautiful expression

A commitment, beyond condition.

When I say ‘I love you’

I mean that I shall always be there

Not expecting the same in return

But bestowing upon you, all my care.

Love, the most powerful force that exists

To give and only give, it insists.

When I say ‘I love you’

To protect you, I shall conquer my fears

And also color your life with a cheerful hue

So that you could be free from tears

Love offers affection and trust galore

Its purity and unselfishness, one must adore.

When I say ‘I love you’

I embrace you with an undying emotion

That shall neither fade away

Nor undergo any sort of distortion.

Love is trustworthy and never lies

Regardless of circumstances, it never dies.
